London attracted over 19 million tourists in 2016, and it is set to keep rising every year. It really is a city that is hard to be bored in. There are so many things to see and do in London. And despite how it feels, you can walk to most places and get a real feel for the city.
The city has great international links, with some of the largest airports in Europe, and links to the continent via the Eurostar train.
It is a really fun city, and I love exploring it. Once you get used to the underground tube you will learn to use it often, however as I said you can walk to most common tourist places in London.
There are a few things you will notice when in London:
- People are always rushing to get somewhere.
- The tube can get super busy in the mornings and just after the work day finishes
- Londoners love to go to pubs (and stand in the street) after work for a pint or two of beer.
- Almost everything is expensive in London - however of course you can find lots of budget activities, and many things like museums and art galleries are completely free.
- You will see and hear people from everywhere on earth - it is a true multicultural city.

How to get from London Airports to City Center
Getting To London By Train
Train travel is expensive in UK. Check train timetimes and prices on National Rail or The Train Line.
But, London has fantastic links to all areas of UK and the trains generally run on time and are clean, tidy and modern.
Getting To London By Coach/Bus
Victoria Coach Station is the main coach station for London for long distance coaches.
There are very good connections to most cities in UK from London. The main coach company is National Express. If you book far in advance you can get really cheap tickets (from £5 each way).
Please note that the location where you get on a coach is different to where they can drop you off (it is around the corner, a different street - very confusing). So if you are meeting someone, make sure you know exactly where to meet them.
London has fantastic public transport options. Please see our guide to London public transport for a more in depth look.
London Underground Tube
London Underground Tube Map
The London Underground is a really great network of 11 lines covering 270 stations.
You should always look at a proper map (not the underground map) to decide if it is worth walking or getting the tube. Some stops are just a few minutes walking distance away from each other. Of course if you are planning on going more than a few stops then it makes sense to get the underground.
